# Endless Notifications: A Bug in Google Search Console

by | Jul 9, 2024

In a world where digital tools are indispensable, even the best systems occasionally face hiccups. This week, I spoke with Sarah Thompson, a digital marketing manager, about a peculiar issue she, and many others, have been experiencing with Google Search Console. The platform, generally known for its robust performance, has been sending out relentless new owner notifications to its users. Here’s Sarah’s recount of her experience.

“It all started last Friday,” Sarah began, her voice a mix of frustration and bemusement. “I woke up to an email from Google Search Console. It was notifying me that a new owner had been added to one of my properties. I thought it was odd since I hadn’t added anyone new recently.”

Initially, Sarah dismissed the email, thinking it was a one-off glitch. But the next morning, the same notification awaited her in her inbox. By the end of the weekend, she had received over a dozen identical emails. “I was genuinely concerned at first,” she explained. “I thought maybe someone had unauthorized access to my account, but after checking, everything appeared normal.”

Sarah isn’t alone in this predicament. Numerous reports have surfaced, with users all around the globe experiencing the same issue. Some have even reported receiving notifications about users who were added years ago. “I’ve seen complaints on forums and social media,” Sarah noted. “It seems like everyone is in the same boat, getting these repetitive notifications about new owners who aren’t actually new.”

The notifications, which are supposed to alert users when a new owner gains access to a Search Console property, are meant to be a security feature. However, this bug has turned it into a source of daily annoyance. “I can’t even reply to the email to ask them to stop,” Sarah said, shaking her head. “It’s from a no-reply address, and the ‘Manage Users’ section doesn’t offer any solutions.”

Dave Smart, a Google Top Contributor, acknowledged the issue in the Google Webmaster Help Forums. “There’s a few reports of this, and it does sound like a bug with Search Console falsely sending out these notifications,” he wrote. “It’s been passed on, so hopefully it will be fixed soon.”

Despite the assurances, the bug remains a headache for users like Sarah. “I’ve started to ignore the notifications, but it’s not an ideal solution,” she admitted. “I rely on these alerts for legitimate security updates. If this continues, I might miss something important.”

As our conversation came to an end, Sarah expressed a sentiment shared by many in the digital community. “Google Search Console is a fantastic tool, but this bug needs to be addressed quickly. In the meantime, all we can do is wait and hope for a fix.”

For now, users must endure the daily barrage of notifications, holding out hope that Google will swiftly rectify the issue. Until then, the digital marketing community remains on high alert, navigating this unexpected hurdle with a mix of patience and frustration.
